『憲法なんて知らないよ---というキミのための「日本の憲法」』

　先日、国立劇場おきなわで上演された「島口説」（謝名元慶福脚本、藤井ごう演出）。
　劇中で歌われた「艦砲ぬ喰ぇー残さー」がわたしの心に深く残った。

我親喰ぇたる　あぬ戦争

子孫末代　遺言さな

艦砲ぬ喰ぇー残さー

わが親喰らった　あの戦
わが島喰らった　あの艦砲
生れ変わったとて忘れるものか
誰があのざまを始めた
恨んで　恨んで　まだ足りない
子孫末代まで語り継ごう
あなたも　わたしも
おまえも　おれも
艦砲の喰い残し

　去年亡くなられた沖縄の役者、北島角子さんが演じていた「島口説」が30年余の時を経て、お笑いコンビ・泉＆やよいによって復活した。
　戦後を生き抜くひとりの沖縄女性「スミ子」を通して、沖縄戦の悲惨さと、戦後も続く沖縄の惨状を涙と笑いを交えながら描かれる。
　スミ子は父親が連れて来た男「にーさん」と結婚して、彼の島へ渡る。
　戦争で兄を亡くしたスミ子と家族全員を失ったにーさん。
　にーさんと手を繋ぎ、おぶられて渡った浅瀬の海は、家族を増やすというふたりの希望の象徴に思えた。
　その後、男の子に恵まれたふたりを幸福な時間が包み込むが、悲劇はゆっくりと一家を蝕んでいく。
　アメリカによる圧政、コザ暴動、復帰。戦争は終わったはずなのに、悲劇がスミ子やにーさんを翻弄する。それは、そのまま激動の時代にあった沖縄の姿だ。
　やがて、息子も夫も亡くしたスミ子の姿に、どうしてここまで彼女から奪うんだろう？と、胸が苦しくなった。
「艦砲の喰ぇー残さー」の作詞・作曲をした比嘉恒敏さんだってそうだ。
　戦中に出稼ぎで大阪へ出ていた比嘉さんは両親と長男を「対馬丸」の沈没で亡くし、妻と次男を大阪の空襲で失った。彼の目の前での出来事だった。
　戦後、沖縄に戻って再婚し、後にでいご娘となる4名の女の子と3名の男の子に恵まれる。
　歌が好きな比嘉さんによって結成されたでいご娘は瞬く間に人気となった。
　ますます飛躍していくと思われたそのとき、一家はアメリカ兵の飲酒運転に巻き込まれて、比嘉さんと奥様は亡くなってしまう。結婚式の余興の帰り道だったという。
　どうして、これほどまでの悲劇が起きてしまうのだろうか？
　艦砲の喰い残しをさらに喰い尽くそうとする野蛮な者たち。わたしたちは、どこにこの憤りをぶつけたらいい？
　一時活動休止をした後、でいご娘は父親の作った「艦砲ぬ喰ぇー残さー」をリリースして大ヒットさせる。

　何度聞いても、艦砲の喰ぇー残さー（艦砲の喰い残し）という言葉の凄みが体を貫く。
　足がすくむような恐怖と、生き残った虚しさ。
　スミ子を見ても、比嘉さんを見ても、沖縄のおじいさん、おばあさんを見ても思う。
　戦争を体験した人の記憶、大切な人を亡くした記憶は一生拭えない。彼らの中で戦争は終わっていない。
　わたしは戦争を経験していない。でも、舞台を見て、歌を聴いて、本を読んで、戦争を経験した人の話を少しでも多く自分の中に残したい。もう二度と悲劇を繰り返したくないから。

　国は人が作る。つまり人々の意思で設計できる。最初に国の形をおおよそ決めた上で、上手に運営する。その指針として憲法がある。
　国を戦争の主体としないため、日本の憲法は「国の間の争いを武力による脅しや武力攻撃によって解決することは認めない」と決めた。

　守られている。心強い。
　憲法の翻訳本、『憲法なんて知らないよ―というキミのための「日本の憲法」』で、はじめて憲法にきちんと触れたわたしの感想だ。わたしたちが戦争に巻き込まれることを憲法は認めていない。
　そして、この国に住む人々が幸福であるべき、平等であるべき大切な存在だと明言されることがこんなにも嬉しいとは。本来、当たり前のことのはずなのになぜか新鮮に思える。
　もちろん、時代に沿って変わっていくこと、加筆されることも必要かもしれない。
　この本の中でも、この先いろいろな議論が必要だろうと書かれている。
　でも、憲法改正に賛成にしろ、反対にしろ、わたしはもっと憲法のことを知らなければいけない。知らないことを議論することはできないから。
　平和を継ぎ、この国に住むすべての人々の生活が守られ、幸福でいられる憲法こそが、わたしたちの憲法なのだ。

【本日の栄町市場】

　栄町市場の見守り隊といえば、「肉屋　あざま」のてっちゃんさんと、「鮮魚店　はやと」のはやとさんだ。
　ふたりは、よくベンチに座っている。「鮮魚店　はやと」前のベンチで、「おかず　かのう家」前のベンチで、「千切り屋　比屋根」前のベンチで。
　だからと言って、ふたりが仕事していないというわけでは断じてない。むしろ、めっちゃ仕事をしているのだ。
　てっちゃんさんは、朝7時から肉をさばいている。正月やお盆の時なんて、5時半からだ！お客さんと接するのは奥さんのみゆきさんの仕事。
　はやとさんもお客さんが来るたび、新鮮で美味しい魚を細かくさばいている。丁寧な仕事。
　つまり、ふたりとも朝が早かったり、お客さん次第の仕事なのだ。だから、集中して忙しい時間帯以外は、ふたりで仲良くおしゃべりをしている。
　働き者で信用の厚いふたりにはもうひとつ、任されていることがある。
「COFFEE potohoto」のさえちゃんは言う。
「ふたりが座りながらおしゃべりしている間に、酔っ払っている人やちょっと怪しい人をいち早く見つけてくれるから、市場は安全なんだよ」
　昼間の市場に酔っ払った人や、怪しい人はあまりいないけれど、たまーに、そういう人を見つけると、市場の人たちに伝達してくれる。あと、ふたりが抑止力になっていたりもするかもね。
　市場の見守り隊。ふたりがいるから、今日も市場は平和です。
